The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has congratulated the newly sworn-in Member of Parliament for Assin North Constituency, James Gyakye Quayson.

Mr Gyakye Quayson was sworn in on Tuesday, July 4 by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, after his emphatic victory in the by-election exactly a week ago.

In his remarks to welcome Mr Gyakye Quayson back to Parliament, the Suame MP noted that the swearing-in is constitutional and has been welcomed by all.

Therefore, he insisted, if the constitution is taking its course by way of a court action against Mr Gyakye Quayson, it should not be seen as persecution as alleged by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He cited how the “appearance and disappearance” of some past lawmakers have been triggered by the application of Article 97 of the Constitution.

“So, Mr Speaker, when you have some people talking about selective justice, we wonder where they are coming from,” he said.

The Majority Leader says the re-election of Mr Gyakye Quayson is a solemn choice made by the people of Assin North “and we must respect it”.

“The rest of it is in the hands of the Attorney-General.”
