Gabriel Asare Otchere-Darko, a stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is suspecting sabotage in the ongoing power supply challenges being experienced in certain parts of the country, otherwise known as dumsor.

He says he cannot fathom why the nation had stable electricity supply even at the peak of the economic crisis two years ago and be experiencing outages now that a general election is looming

He is asking players in the energy sector what is could be causing the challenge..

A section of Ghanaians for some months now, have been enduring dumsor which has affected their businesses and normal lives.

Some business owners have complained about the amount of money they need to spend to fuel their machines to keep their merchandises running.

In a recent video going viral on social media, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Tema General Hospital experienced dumsor with a voice suspected to be a nurse, indicating in the video how the lives of the babies were at risk.

The hospital, has since issued a statement to explain that power was quickly restored after the incident in 2 hours and no baby’s life was lost during the moment.

A release from the hospital

Although Ghanaians have demanded for a load shedding timetable in order to plan for their activities appropriately, the government insists there is no timetable since the outage is a temporal issue which is being resolved.

Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, during an NPP programme in Kumasi told journalists Ghanaians demanding for a timetable should provide some themselves.

In a post made on Facebook Thursday, March 28, 2024, Mr. Otchere-Darko said the fact that power supply remained stable even at the peak of the economic crisis is an indication that the recent outage is politically motivated.

“There is something mysteriously amiss somewhere. You have managed to keep the lights on for 7 years, even during the height of the economic crisis in 2022. Why now?” he quizzed.
