The top leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is said to be heavily divided over whether Former President Mahama should change or maintain his weak 2020 running mate.

Mr. Mahama is said to have come under intense pressure to reconsider changing the retired 76-year-old Literature Professor for a number of names that have been proposed and suggested to him.

Reports say some 4 names have repeatedly appeared in key conversations and could be under consideration ahead of the keen 2024 elections.

Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang is said to have lost the very little ground she had in Central Region to minority leader Cassiel Ato Forson who has become the choice of Kingmakers and opinion leaders of the Fante region.

Almost all Constituency and Regional Executives as well as MPs in the Central Region back Cassiel Ato Forson as against Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang who has been accused of being “chisel” and uncharismatic.

Sources also told MyNewsGh.com support for the former “Eastern Lion” and former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and Asante Juaben Royal and former BOST and TOR boss Kwame Awuah Darko is gathering steam.

Johnson Pandit Asiama, economist and banker who is a close friend of the Mahamas and who hails from the Northern part of the Volta Region now Oti Region is said to also have come under consideration to replace the weak 2020 running mate.

Moves to get these names replace Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang as running mate to former President John Dramani Mahama continue to gather momentum across and within the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Although Mr. Julius Debrah has issued a statement distancing himself from the campaign sources say the former Chief of Staff is lobbying intensely for the post.

This has reportedly caused bad blood between the camp of the former Chief of Staff and The 2020 Running Mate who is allegedly fighting with all her life to keep her only job in the last 3 years.

The 2020 Running Mate’s camp has also reportedly picked a fight with Young Economist and Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson for “seeking to undermine and replace” his mother Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang through “malicious” publications.

Many in the party say the 2020 running mate should be changed for someone more vibrant and Charismatic.

Other names such as Sylvester Mensah, former NHIA Boss, Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, former Deputy Chief of Staff; Alex Mould among others have come up very strongly previously.
