NDC Swerves Cape Coast, Changes Manifesto Launch Venue To Winneba

In a surprising move, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced a change of venue for its highly anticipated manifesto launch, shifting from Cape Coast to Winneba.

It’s second time in a row that Cape Coast has been side stepped in major NDC functions like the lunching of the party’s campaign which was moved at the last minute to Tamale.

The Central Regional capital has lost its viability to host another NDC major program to Winneba.

The event, scheduled for Saturday, August 24, 2024, will now take place at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Auditorium of the University of Education, Winneba.

However, what has raised eyebrows is the conspicuous absence of the party’s Running Mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang’s name, from the list of dignitaries expected to attend the event.

This omission has sparked speculation and concern among party supporters and political analysts.

It is believed that the snub comes on the heels of a recent embarrassing incident at the Winneba market, where Professor Opoku-Agyemang, who hails from the Central Region, was met with a poor reception during her tour of the Winneba Market and clashed with Afenyo-Markin, the Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency.

The event, intended to showcase her connection with the grassroots, was marred by a lack of enthusiasm and support from the crowd.

The NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, issued a press statement confirming the change of venue and highlighting the expected attendance of the party’s Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, as well as other prominent members of the party.

However, the statement’s silence on Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s role in the manifesto launch has raised questions about her position within the party and her ability to connect with voters.

As the NDC prepares to unveil its manifesto, the party’s internal dynamics and the role of its Running Mate remain unclear.

The recent embarrassment in Winneba and the snub from the manifesto launch have cast a shadow over Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s candidacy, leaving many to wonder if she is being positioned for success or merely being used as a pawn in the party’s political game.
