Former Finance Minister Seth Terkper has indicated that the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be more effective managers of the energy sector levies than the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

He accused the current government of their inability to account for the revenue accrued from the ESLA.

“We will manage energy sector levies (ESLA) better when we come back. Monies accrued from ESLA cannot be accounted for by this government even though it’s meant for settling debts within the sector,” he told TV3’s Kemmini Amanor on the Hot Issues on Sunday, September 1.

In the area of the financial sector clean-up, Mr Terkper further said that the next NDC administration would investigate the collapse of some local banks during the clean-up.

In his view, the clean-up exercise needs to be investigated because of customers lost their funds in the process.

“We will investigate the collapse of the said banks because people have lost their savings. Lessons must be learned from this experience,” he said.

The Flagbearer of the NDC John Dramani Mahama earlier promised to restore the licenses of the banks that were wrongly revoked during the financial sector cleanup.

He also promised to rationalise the fees charged at the ports. He says his administration will also introduce measures to deal with the fall of the Cedi against the Dollar.

He said these while launching the NDC manifesto on Saturday, August 24 in Winneba.

“We will rationalize port fees and charges, and measures to stabilize the cedi and macroeconomic environment,” he stressed.
