We are building political parties but not a nation – William Boadi Fumes

The Chief Executive Officer of Educate Africa Institute, Mr. William Boadi has attributed the death of Nine schoolchildren at Faana in the Weija-Gbawe municipality to the unwillingness of the political leaders to perform their function as entrusted to them.

These Nine School Children met their untimely deaths on May 10 when the canoe they were traveling on capsized and drowned at Faana in the Weija Gbawe municipality in Accra.

Mr. William Boadi speaking in an interview has stated that the political leadership in the country is working tirelessly to ensure the retainment of their seats without putting into consideration the concerns of the citizenry.

He emphasizes that we are building political parties but not a nation with politicians strategizing on how to win a political seat in the next four years without providing any support to the citizens to enhance their social life.

He noted that the unfortunate situation could have been prevented if the welfare of the citizenry was considered by the politicians who visited the burial service and provided Gh¢90,000 to the affected families by earlier buying life Jackets to be used on the river than giving out monies to console the affected families.

He stressed that he does not see the loss of the life of these 9 school children as a disaster but what he described as a typical human error because the MCE confirmed the age of the paddler of the capsized canoe as 12 years and it is quite unfortunate for twelve years old to paddle a canoe with these huge number of persons.

He portioned some blame to the Ministry of Education for not being able to ensure the construction of school buildings for the school-going children at Faana to avert any disaster on the river as they cross it every day to school because about 20 persons have lost their lives in water bodies due to lack of Life Jackets and school building at their respective habitats.

Registering his displeasure, he counted that the Ministry of Education has to be renamed as Ministry of Common Sense because it has been difficult for our leaders to apply the book knowledge for problem solving hence must result to the application of common sense in some areas of work to avert certain unforeseen circumstances.

Mr. William Boadi has therefore pleaded with all and sundry to do what they are capable of doing to ensure the development of the country than relying on the government of the day. He said it is about time Nananom, opinion leaders, religious leaders, philanthropists and other stakeholders come on board with positive ideas to transform the country rather than the constant dependence on government and politicians.
