The Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has confirmed that President John Dramani Mahama’s official X account (@JDMahama) has been hacked.
Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV, Kwakye Ofosu revealed that unscrupulous individuals had compromised the account, but assured the public that efforts were underway to recover it.
“Well, there’s been a hack. Some unscrupulous persons have compromised it, but efforts are underway to recover it, and it should be recovered any moment from now,” he stated.
The breach was noticed on Sunday, when the President’s X account was used to promote a cryptocurrency scam linked to Solanafrica, a fraudulent project falsely claiming to be “led by Ghana’s President John Mahama to make payments across Africa free using the Solana blockchain”. The token has since been rug-pulled, leaving investors with some losses.
Although the suspicious post has been deleted, the compromised account continues to post crypto-related content, hinting at the launch of another memecoin.
Authorities are working to restore the account and prevent further misuse, while urging the public to disregard any suspicious posts from the handle until it is fully recovered.
