New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) in the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Sarah Adwoa Safo was met with rejection from traders in the Dome Market when she visited the place to interact with them and campaign towards her reelection in 2024.
A cheerful Adwoa Safo was greeted with shouts of “we want change” from mostly market women who insisted that she needed to give way for a new MP for the Constituency.
Attempts by Ms Safo to diffuse the embarrassing situation seemed to rather embolden the traders who shouted even louder and made signs of change, telling her to her face that they did not want her there and she did not have their support.
The three-term MP for the area had earlier apologized to her party and constituents for absenting herself from Parliament for almost the whole of last year. She had explained among others that she had to attend to the pressing needs of her children in the United States and did not deliberately abandon them.
Her plea however does seem to have mollified the market women who had been a key part of her support base.
