Upper West Region: 54-year-old Chief Murdered In Wa.

A renowned Tendaana (Landlord) and a Chief, Alhaji Mutala has reportedly been killed at Suuriyiri a suburb of Wa in the Upper West Region.

Alhaji Mutala, popularly called Janton Naa is the Chief of Janton in the Savana Region. He was found dead in his room lying in a pool of blood in the early hours of Thursday, April 11, 2024.

He was reportedly found with a deep cut on his throat by unknown assailants a day after the Sanlah festival.

According to the family, the Wa Regional Police was informed of the incident and its personnel went and did their preliminary investigations and the body was picked and deposited at the Wa Regional mortuary where an autopsy was later conducted the.next day. The body has aince been released to the family and burial has taken place per Islamic tradition.

Seidu Tampuori Iddrisu, the deceased’s nephew stated that a suspect, now in police custody who is known to be Naa Janton’s long standing friend and a business partner, visited the house on the said date and picked the deceased and his friend out late in the evening. He (the suspect) brought them back moments before his killing.

Mr Iddrisu has confirmed that the deceased’s friend has since been picked by the police and was remanded to police custody on Monday April 15, 1024 by the Wa District Court pending further investigations.

Seidu Tampuori Iddrisu who made the appeal through Ghanaxpress.com and Wontumionline.com in Kumasi on Monday, said they were upset by the way the killers slaughtered the deceased in his room.

He consequently appealed to the police to help unravel the mystery to ensure that the perpetrators face justice.

“We are prepared physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally to fight his killers if the police deny us justice as we want”, he added
