The 45th President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, will from January 20, 2025 begin another four-year term as the 47th President.

Though not officially announced, projected results from last Tuesday’s elections show he has crossed the 270 Electoral Votes mark and is even likely to go over 280 by the time the last polls close.

The leader of the Republican Party, Trump, who served only a term after winning the 2016 elections, was shown the exit in 2020 when he sought to have a second and final term, losing to Joseph R. Biden, who could also not vie for a second term on health grounds.

Trump has secured more than the 270 electoral votes required to win the US presidency and his party has also gained over 51 seats in the Senate, snatching the authority in the Senate from the Democrats and over 218 seats in the House of Representatives, making them the majority.

From the figures, the Republican Party will control the Senate and the House from 2025 to 2029.

Trump’s win was made manifest when he won four out of the seven swing states and led Kamala Harris in the remaining three, at the time of filing this report on Wednesday.

Trump won Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia and Wisconsin and was leading in Arizona, Nevada and Michigan. He was also leading in the popular votes as well, which he did not win in 2016.

Trump’s victory has been described as a historic political comeback, as he is the first former president to return to the post after a break, over a century, but second in the books of the nation.

ADDRESS

On election night, Trump addressed his supporters and declared his victory after winning several of the electoral votes.

“I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honour of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president,” Trump told supporters at a victory party at the Palm Beach County Convention Center.

“This was a movement like no one has ever seen before,” he added. “Frankly, I believe this was the greatest political movement of all time.

“Now it is going to reach a new level of importance,” Trump said of his return to the White House. “Because we are going to help our country heal.”

Trump was joined onstage by his family, key staffers and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio.

In a brief remark, Vance said, “Well, Mr. President, I appreciate you allowing me to join you on this incredible journey. I think we just witnessed the greatest political comeback in the history of the United States of America.”

Supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris, who had planned a victory party at her headquarters in Washington, left disappointed as she did not appear to address them, following the result.

She was, however, expected to concede defeat on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 but at the time of going to press, that was yet to take place.

CONGRATULATION

Following his victory projection by multiple news outlets, congratulatory messages rained on Trump from parts of the world.

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the President of France, the President of Ukraine, the Prime Minister of Israel, NATO Secretary and European Commission President, among others, have sent words of congratulations to Trump.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), which describes the Republican Party as a “sister party,” has also congratulated the party and Trump.

The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has done the same.

Meanwhile, Trump has pledged to end the Russia-Ukraine war soon after taking office but he has not stated how.
