Former Minister of Health Dr. Richard Anane has pooh-poohed the ‘Adru Me So’ campaign mantra by some New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopefuls.

Notably among these is Alan Kyerematen, who has made ‘Adru Me So’, to wit “it is my turn”, his main campaign.

Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku is another flagbearer hopeful who has also made this one of his messages.

The two ministers who served in the Kufuor administration argue that they should be elected the next NPP flagbearer due to their previous close defeats in past NPP primaries.

Mr Kyerematen lost to President Akufo-Addo twice while Dr Apraku lost to former President Kufuor and the current president, coming third in 1998.

But the Health Minister in the Kufuor administration has rejected the proposition by these two, insisting that the choice of flagbearer for the NPP should be based on competence and not any ‘Adru Me So’ mantra.

“I don’t know why people claim Adru Me So (it is their turn ),” Richard Anane said in an interview.

He added that if people are using history and tradition to lay claim to the NPP flagbearership, then Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia can also legitimately say it is his time because, Dr. Anane stated, Bawumia’s father was a founding member of the Northern People’s Party, one of the political parties which merged to form the NPP’s root, the United Party.

The former Health Minister insisted that the claim to the flagbearership should be based on one’s competence and track record, not “it is my turn”.

“It is about competence and your good works. People’s belief that you’re the one who can do a good job, not Aduru me so,” Dr. Richard Anane said.
