Some supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Adansi Asokwa Constituency of the Ashanti Region have besieged the party office to register their resentment over the purported intimidation of a parliamentary hopeful, Kwabena Asamoah. Mr. Asamoah – who is the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Finance and Administration at the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre. Mr. Asamoah was hauled before a disciplinary committee chaired by the Constituency Chairman, Kwame Owusu for making a donation of a set of hand driers and a cash donation to an association of hairdressers without issuing a prior notice to the party.
The aggrieved supporters therefore challenged the summon, describing it as utterly ridiculous. According to them, the incumbent Member of Parliament, Honourable Kobina Tahir Hammond, is scheming to scare off any potential aspirants ahead of the party’s Parliamentary Primaries.
However, calming the nerves of his followers after appearing before the disciplinary committee, Mr. Asamoah noted that the committee has cleared him of any wrongdoing for supposedly declaring his intent. According to him, the meeting was very cordial, with the party rather calling for partnership. He has therefore told his followers to remain calm and throw their weight behind the party.
