A Parliamentary Aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tamale South Constituency, Mr. Baba Ibrahim, has vowed to unseat the incumbent NDC Member of Parliament for the area, Hon Haruna Iddrisu if given the node to lead the governing party into the 2024 general elections.

Mr. Baba popularly referred to as Baba Fooshegu is the current Assembly Member for the Fooshegu Electoral Area in the Tamale Metropolis during his filing to contest the upcoming NPP Parliamentary Primaries on Saturday, July 29, said he is the right person among the contestants to recapture the constituency back to the NPP.

In a media interview, the Parliamentary candidate hopeful rebuked the notion that the NDC lawmaker was invincible and winning the Tamale South seat on the ticket of the NPP was insurmountable.

“People always make this statement but I always laugh over it. Haruna Iddrisu is a human being, he was nobody before he became somebody. Haruna Iddrisu was like me and if the entire Tamale South decides not to vote for him, who will he be?

“So, I’m telling you with all the authority that, I’m going to unseat Haruna Iddrisu if I’m given the node and I won’t tell you openly what method and measures I’m going to use to defeat Haruna Iddrisu; so for me, it’s left with me and my campaign team as to the strategies, time, resources that I will deploy in the constituency that would enable me to snatch the seat from the seat and give it to the NPP” he stated.

The two term Assembly Member said he is also more popular and visible in the Tamale South constituency more than the former Minority Leader of Parliament.

“Haruna Iddrisu is well known in the country but he is not well known in the constituency more than me. The people know me well in the constituency more than Haruna Iddrisu” he emphasized.

Sharing his vision to develop the constituency, Hon Baba Ibrahim said he will propose for the constituency to be divided in order to ensure that the MP’s share of the District Assembly Common Fund among other resources are judiciously used to meet the development aspirations of the people.

“Tamale South is very large constituency, first thing is, I will try my possible to split Tamale South into two that would fasten the development and growth of the constituency. I’m saying this with a reason that, Tamale South is even more than four constituencies put together, so if I’m able to get it separated, the Common Fund that would be given to Salaga North is the same that would be given to Tamale South” he argues.

According to him, access to portal drinking water, electricity, road network, educational and health infrastructure are all still major bottlenecks affecting the socioeconomic growth of the inhabitants.

He promised to tackle the numerous challenges head-on when voted as the NPP Parliamentary Candidate and ultimately as the Member of Parliament in December 2024.

Meanwhile, Hon Baba Ibrahim who has also served as the New Patriotic Party Electoral Coordinator comes with over a decade experience of local politics in the Tamale South Constituency.

He was accompanied by dozens of NPP Polling Station Executives and Electoral Area Coordinators to submit his nomination forms to the constituency elections committee.

The governing NPP has not won the seat since it was curved out of then Gulkpegu/Sabonjida Constituency in 2004. The seat prior to the 2004 elections was held by the late Mustapha Ali Idris of the NPP, therefore, it is a constituency the party aspires to win again.
