Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen, former deputy general secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has condemned the NDC for their remarks on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, particularly regarding the transportation of SHS students to his rally during his recent tour in the Ashanti Region.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) accused the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of belittling Ghana’s education system during his recent tour of the Ashanti region.

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, Augustus Nana Akwasi, at a press conference in Kumasi, described as “worrying” the busing of students from various Senior High Schools to the NPP’s youth connect program at the Jubilee Park.

He said the act was not in the interest of the students but to create a crowd effect to shore up Dr. Bawumia’s sinking popularity in the NPP’s political stronghold.

Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen responded to the statements in an interview by asserting that if the NDC regains power, they intend to revoke the free Senior High School Policy.

He attributed this stance to the NDC’s historical disdain for educational initiatives dating back to the PNDC era, claiming they benefit from keeping people uneducated and lawless. He emphasized that the NDC opposes the free SHS policy because they fear it could undermine their political support.

Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen cautioned voters against electing Mahama, warning that doing so would lead to the cancellation of all welfare programs aimed at helping the underprivileged.
