Former Minority Chef Whip and lawmaker for Asawase Constituency Hon Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has revealed why he and others were ousted from their positions in parliament.

He disclosed that the Former Minority Leadership decided to be neutral in the party’s Chairmanship race between Mr Asiedu Nketiah and Samuel Ofosu Ampofo ahead of the party’s National Executive Congress.

“The problem that ensued in the last contest was that Asiedu Nketiah was contesting a sitting National Chairman. The truth is that some elders in the party asked leadership in Parliament to speak to him to step down because the party needed both of them so that the two can work together. We tried severally but it yielded no results”. The lawmaker told Angel FM Kumasi in an interview.

He added “We called for a leadership meeting and decided that because of how the two of them (Asiedu Nketiah and Ofosu Ampofo) have supported our leadership, we are going to stay neutral to be able to bring them together afterwards which we all agreed”

“So we called for a Caucus meeting and told the members that they can still go ahead to support whoever they want but we were going to stay neutral” he explained monitored by MyNewsGH.com.

Hon Muntaka revealed that the matter got worse when Minority decided to dissociate itself from the then Deputy Chief Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim’s claim that the NDC caucus in Parliament was supporting Mr. Nketiah.

According to him, even when given the same opportunity, he is not going to change his decision to stay neutral in the matter.

“This was our problem with him and I think even given another opportunity we will do the same thing”, he stated adding that he will continue to keep his principles.

“I have said that, you have to keep your principle even if your principle will make you lose something”, he stressed.

It would be recalled that a change in the leadership of the minority in parliament saw  Dr Cassiel Ato Forson take over from Haruna Iddrisu as the new Minority Leader.

Ellembelle MP, Kofi Armah Boah replaced James Klutse Avedzi as Deputy Minority Leader while Kwame Agbodza becomes the Chief Whip replacing Alhaji  Muntaka Mubarak.
