The communications director for Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team, Miracle Aboagye has strongly refuted claims by the Minority members in Parliament saying, the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, attacked the Ghana Revenue Authority.

According to him, the flagbearer only suggested some potential drives to be included in the tax collection strategies to be more efficient.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia critiqued the Ghana Revenue Authority on their methods used in the collection of taxes.

He perceived them as ‘harassing’ businesses in the name of tax collection.

He made this statement when he met the Chamber of Commerce to seek their opinions, to be included in his manifesto on 20th March, 2024.

However, the minority members in Parliament responded to this, arguing that it is an attack on the GRA.

Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV, on 21st March, 2024, Mr Aboagye stressed that, the flagbearer provided solutions to the problem.

“Were we not here when he went to the port? Late president Mills at a time visited the port to examine them. Were we also not here when the minister of foreign Affairs audited the Passport office” ? He quizzed.

He further stated that, it is the vision of Dr. Bawumia to transform the nation across all sectors.

“This is not an attack. Does it mean when you are responsible for something and it is not going well, you can’t provide solutions? Dr. Bawumia wants the GRA to be more creative in their tax collection system.

This is a way to raise issues and find solutions to them. He raised the issue of births and deaths registry two years ago and has provided solutions to it recently ” he added.
