Member of Parliament (MP) Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Kofi Amankwa-Manu has told constituents that his duty as lawmaker is not to weed around their bushy toilet facilities.
The Deputy Defense Minister on Kumasi-based Hello Fm monitored by MyNewsGh.com, disclosed how during a community engagement he was confronted by a constituent over the bushy toilet facilities in the area
“I was on a community engagement and can imagine they told me that their toilet facility is bushy and for that matter I should weed around it for them. It was during question time that someone raised the issue. I needed to be patient enough and explain things to them. I told them it is not the duty of the MP to come weeding around bushy toilets, there is an assembly man”, he disclosed.
Asked if that was also the responsibility of the assemblyman, he responded “he liaises directly with the assembly and can get someone to do that”
He explained that the person who even raised the concern was the one manning the toilet facility and taking money from residents who use it wondering why the MP must always be responsible for anything that happens in the constituency.
“Everything that happens in the constituency it is the duty of the MP which should not be so”, he said while reacting to claims that some lawmakers are afraid to visit their constituencies for fear of taking up their own responsibilities
