The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has admonished the newly sworn-in Member of Parliament for Assin North Constituency to abide by the rules of the legislature.
James Gyakye Quayson was sworn in by the Speaker on Tuesday, July 4, exactly a week after he won the by-election.
He beat contest from Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).
There were a lot of dignitaries in the House for the swearing-in ceremony.
Offering his advice to Mr Gyakye Quayson, the Speaker admonished him to be for all including those who even did not vote last Tuesday.
“You represent all those who voted for you and those who voted against you and even those who did not vote, so you represent HE the President to represent all the people of Ghana.”
He urged him not to breach the rules and regulations of Parliament as failure on his part will be at the peril of the position he occupies.
The Speaker also insisted that selective justice is evidently at play in Ghana, mounting a strong defence behind his position.
