The Electoral Commission (EC) has explained how independent presidential aspirants can have access to Nomination Forms for the December 7, 2024 presidential election.
From Friday, August 2, 2024, interested candidates in the upcoming elections, can download nomination forms from the Electoral Commission’s website and start filling them for filing.
But for independent presidential aspirants, the EC says they should submit a Letter of Introduction addressed to the chairperson of the Electoral Commission for the collection of their Passwords at the Head Office of the Electoral Commission to enable them download the Nomination Forms from the Electoral Commission’s website.
The EC will start receiving the nominations from Monday, September 9 to Friday, September 13, 2024.
Per the law, the candidates interested in the presidential election are supposed to be nominated on the official Nomination Forms of the EC.
The completed Presidential Nomination Forms are to be signed by the candidates themselves and not less than two persons who are registered voters of each District Assembly in Ghana.
Announcing the opening of the nominations in a press release issued on Thursday, August 1, the commission stated that the process was in accordance with Regulations 6, 7, and 9 of the 2020 Public Elections Regulations (C.I 127).
It said interested candidates can download nomination forms from the EC’s website starting Friday, August 2.
It also stated that filing fee for presidential candidates is set at GH¢100,000, with a reduced fee of GH¢75,000 for female candidates and persons with disabilities.
With the parliamentary elections, candidates are to pick forms at GH¢10,000.
Nomination forms will be accepted between 9:00 am and 12:00 noon, and again from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm each day during the nomination period.
“Candidates vying for the position of President will be required to make a payment of One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢100,000.00) at the time of submitting their Nomination Forms,” the statement read.
“Payment shall be by Banker’s draft and addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. Female Candidates and Persons with Disabilities are required to pay Seventy-Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 75,000).”
“For parliamentary candidates, the filing fee is GH¢10,000, with a reduced fee of GH¢7,500 for female candidates and persons with disabilities,” it added.
The statement concluded that all matters concerning the presidential elections should be directed to the EC Chairperson, while issues related to parliamentary elections should be addressed to the Returning Officers of the various constituencies.
“All enquiries relating to the Presidential Election should be addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and the Parliamentary Elections to the Returning Officers of the Constituencies where the Candidates seek election,” it concluded.
