A FUEL tanker, in the early hours of Friday morning, has overturned on the Accra stretch of the Tema Motorway, spilling its contents in the process.
Between the hours of 7am and 8am, road users on the Accra stretch of the Tema Motorway witnessed the pod of a fuel tanker fall on its side about 200m away from the tollbooth resulting in a massive spillage.
The cause of the incident is not yet known, but the spillage has caused a heavy traffic on that part of the motorway, leaving some drivers with no option that to turn their engines off.
The sad development, it appears, has turned out as a “blessing” for some people as some residents were seen with basins, gallons and other containers harvesting the rest of the fuel coming out of the tanker.
Some commercial drivers were also sighted with gallons fetching the free fuel which abound on the motorway while others who had already fetched theirs were seen filling the tanks of their cars.
As at when this report was being filed, a Ghana Fire Service truck was seen at the scene with a few officers obviously overwhelmed by the situation.
Some concerned persons however lamented the dangers posed by the spillage to the lives of the people around, especially those busily going so close to the tanker to get their fair share of the “bounty.”
