The royal family of Kue, through their spokesperson Abdul Kerim Samssoudini is deeply concerned about the actions of Sakibu Ateku Afora, a self-proclaimed Amankrodo of Kue, whom they accuse of spreading false information to serve his personal interests among the Tem Kotokoli people.
Sakibu claims that the Chief of Kue enslaved Kue and Tem Kotokoli people under Akyode rule, undermining relations between Kotokolis and Akyodes and alleging false land ownership claims by Akyodes. However, the royal family’s spokesperson clarifies that the chief’s affiliation with the Akyode traditional council was lawful and did not entail slavery but rather was a means of gaining autonomy.
The people of Kue assert that Sakibu’s primary agenda is securing the Kue chieftaincy. He is also rallying innocent Tem Kotokoli people to support his secession claim over Kpassa and Nkwanta lands which he attributes to Tchaojo lands (TOGO) .
Notably, Sakibu’s father, Issaka, previously attempted to claim the Kue chieftaincy through force, resulting in misunderstanding between Issaka and the people of Kue. Sakibu himself has now settled relatives in Kue, and their actions—reportedly including arming themselves and causing fear and panic in the community.
The people of Kue and the royal family are urging all security agencies in the Oti region and in Nkwanta municipal to monitor Sakibu and his followers closely. They stress that Sakibu’s activities endanger the relative calm and peace in the municipality.
It’s important to note that in 1998, Sakibu was implicated in leading a group that caused harm to innocent people in Kue due to disputes over the chieftaincy. The community of Kue and Tem Kotokoli collectively express their desire to avoid conflict within the Nkwanta Municipality.
