Black Stars to depart on Tuesday for crucial Mali clash

The Black Stars of Ghana are set to fly to Bamako, Mali, on Tuesday, June 4, for a vital World Cup qualifier against the Eagles.

The match, scheduled for Thursday, June 6, marks the third round of fixtures in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

With Otto Addo at the helm, the team have been rigorously training at the University of Ghana Stadium since Friday, strategising to outclass their opponents. This preparation period has been crucial as the Black Stars aim to secure a win and boost their qualification chances.

The team now boast a full squad following the late arrival of Osman Bukari, whose travel was delayed due to the completion of his transfer from Red Star Belgrade to Austin FC in Major League Soccer (MLS). Alexander Djiku also joined the team on Sunday, overcoming an earlier injury scare sustained while playing for Fenerbahce.

After the match against Mali, Ghana will return to host the Central African Republic (CAR) on June 10 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. Both games are critical for the Black Stars, given the mixed results from their first two matches.

Under former coach Chris Hughton, Ghana managed a narrow 1-0 victory against Madagascar but suffered a defeat to Comoros. As a result, they currently sit fourth in the group with three points, trailing behind Comoros, Mali, and Madagascar.
