The Spokesperson for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Gideon Boako, has asserted that in an election, one’s position on the ballot paper has no significance on whether or not one will emerge victorious in the election.
He noted that it is the voters that will eventually decide who wins an election and not the position of candidates or aspirants on the ballot paper
Dr Boako made the argument after the four remaining aspirants to the flagbearer position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) balloted for positions on the ballot paper for the November 4, 2023, National Delegates Conference of the party which will elect a flagbearer for the 2024 General Elections.
Speaking to Citi FM Wednesday, Dr Boako was certain that the delegates could locate Dr Bawumia no matter his position on the ballot paper and would accordingly vote for him.
“It doesn’t matter. Whoever is going to vote obviously knows the person he or she is going to vote for…And mind you, people have been number two in this country and won to become President.
People have been number one and they have lost miserably. People have been the last number and they have lost miserably…I don’t think it matters,” he said. “Voters know who they want to vote for. They can identify the image of Dr. Bawumia on the ballot paper and vote accordingly,” he argued.
After the balloting exercise, Kennedy Agyapong got the first position; Dr Bawumia got the second position; Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto got the third position; and Francis Addai-Nimoh got the fourth position.
While some supporters have said that their positioning on the ballot matters in the victory or loss, Dr Boako has emphasized that Dr Bawumia’s position bears no significance to how he will perform in the election.
