The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) believes he is in a better position to take the country’s socio-economic development to the next level

The 2024 presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said he is ready to serve Ghanaians well as the main driver if given the nod in the 7 December elections.

Bawumia believes he is in a better position to take the socio-economic development of the country to the next level due to the experience he has gathered over the past seven years serving as vice-president.

Having sacrificed his time, youth and expertise for the party since 2008 as well as serving diligently in the office of vice-president since 2017, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has built an impeccable track record in the administration and governance space.

He continues to draw huge commendations and acclamation from wide-ranging, personalities, organisations and agencies attesting to his competence, passion and commitment.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Africa Watch Magazine, Bawumia called on various stakeholders to ensure a peaceful election in December.

“We must all strive towards a peaceful election. Together, let us build a progressive society of possibilities, enterprise, compassion, open opportunities and shared prosperity for every Ghanaian, knowing that our collective efforts will pave the way for a brighter tomorrow,” the vice-president added

“I want to assure the Ghanaian electorate that I have prepared myself well for the job. As I have reiterated, I have never been President of Ghana before. I am ready to serve and to serve well. As the main driver, I am ready to lead,” Bawumia added.

Battle of the North

Bawumia faces his main opponent former President John Mahama of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the December elections.

Both presidential candidates hail from the northern part of the country and will be battling for electoral supremacy in the five regions of the north and the Zango areas which had remained faithful to the NDC since the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1992.

The margins had, however, reduced since the emergence of Dr Bawumia in the political space.

Instructively, both candidates come from regions that had been carved out of the Northern Region. While Dr Bawumia comes from the North East, Mahama hails from the Savannah Region.
