The First Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress in the Ashanti Region Captain John Kwame Jabari (retired) has discounted all presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) as threats to the victory of his party in the 2024 elections.
The retired military man argued that contrary to the belief of some members of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) that Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is the biggest threat to the National Democratic Congress(NDC), both Dr Bawumia and former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyeremanten are the weakest candidates to be defeated if any of them emerge flagbearer.
As the NPP is gearing up for the heated contest to elect their flagbearer for the 2024 elections, election watchers have placed Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia as the most marketed candidate to lead the party while Alan Kyeremanten has also been tipped as the biggest contender to Dr Bawumia in the contest. The assertion also resulted in proposals for the NPP to consider the two persons on a single ticket for the presidential election.
However, the Ashanti Regional 1st Vice Chairman of the NDC believes that both Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Alan Kyeremamten are the most vulnerable candidates and can easily be defeated by the NDC.
“I have a concern, for both the NPP and my party the NDC, as a political party, the NDC must make clear our stance on who we want to defeat but I can tell you that both Alan and Bawumia are the weakest link of the NPP presidential race,” he said in an interview on Kumasi-based Ultimate Fm.
“Bawumia has proven he is empty and has nothing to offer. Tell me, what has he changed under Nana Addo’s government, nothing. Alan too has done nothing to merit leading the NPP in any way” Jabari added.
While expressing optimism that the NDC will win the next election, he admonished his party to as a matter of strategy take an interest in who leads the NPP in the 2024 elections.
“As a political party when we are going to electoral war we should strategize and ask ourselves which of the guys we prefer to defeat though they are all weak, there are some that are more weaklings than some,” he said.
