Some supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bawku Municipality of the Upper East Region are protesting the arrest of an activist of the party in the municipality, Malik Badimsugru Baako.
According to some of the protesters, Malik Badimsugru Baako was arrested by the police, allegedly under the undue influence of Mr Anthony Namoo, the Upper East Regional Chairman of the NPP, for some action of Mr Badimsugru Baako deemed offensive to him( Mr Namoo).
Yesterday, the protesters, while demanding the immediate release of Mr Badimsugru Baako from police custody, burnt party paraphernalia and threatened to campaign against the party.
On social media, others chastised the party over his arrest:
“Don’t ever take Loyalty for Granted!
Loyalty is Earned!
Don’t ever Spit on a Face that Smiles at you!
Paraphernalia of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was burnt in Bawku this morning in protest of the arrest of Prince Malik Badimsugru Baako by Anthony Namoo the NPP Upper East Regional Chairman.
Whilst the NDC are seriously recruiting their youth and preparing them for the election 2024, the NPP is busy arresting and intimidating its youth. Don’t ever take Loyalty for Granted!
Loyalty is Earned! Don’t ever Spit on a Face that Smiles at you,” one protester wrote.
The arrest of Mr Badimsugru continues to provoke dissatisfaction and anger in the municipality.
