On Sunday August 13, 2023, actor and businessman John Dumelo became the parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency for the 2024 General Elections following a statement by the Constituency chairman formally endorsing him as such.

The NDC Chairman of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Mr Bismark Ahorvi Ayitey, explained that since Mr Demelo is now the solo candidate for the Constituency as a result of the withdrawal of his contenders, the party has decided to formally confirm him as the candidate for the Constituency for the 2024 parliamentary elections.

“As a result of this harmonious agreement, we proudly endorse and present Mr John Dumelo as the official NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency for the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections,” the statement issued and signed by Mr Ayitey said.

Recently Me Fred Nuamah announced his withdrawal from the race and threw his weight behind Mr Dumelo’s candidature, effectively making him the only candidate seeking to lead the NDC in the Constituency into the 2024 parliamentary elections.

In 2020, Mr Dumelo was the NDC’s parliamentary candidate. He acquitted himself well in the Constituency, a stronghold of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) by garnering more than 48% of the votes. The NPP’s Lydia Seyram Alhassan won the election to retain the seat she had earlier won through a by-election in 2019.

John Dumelo is trusted by the NDC as the one who can snatch the seat from the NPP due to his fame and charisma as well as his previous impressive performance
