The National Media Commission(NMC), the body mandated to ensure the observance of the highest journalistic standards in the mass media, has ordered the Chief Executive Officer CEO of Authentic Media Company Limited, operators of Power FM, to apologize to Second Lady Samira Bawumia, the Fulani Community in Ghana and the entire Ghana public for allowing their platform, Power FM, to be used to insult Second Lady Samira Bawumia, denigrate Fulanis in Ghana, and stoke ethnic tensions.

In a letter dated November 6, 2023, addressed to the CEO and signed by the Executive Secretary George Sarpong of the NMC, the commission deplored the action of the station, stressing that such an action had no place in the country as the country seeks to unite, maintain its peace and development.

The NMC also chastised the presenter for pretending to protest while subtly encouraging him to carry on with his denigration and insult on Samira Bawumia and the Fulani Community.

“We ask you to apologise to H.E. Hajia Samira Bawumia and the Fulani Community. We additionally ask that you apologise to the Ghanaian public whose sensibilities you breached by that broadcast.

We expect you to undertake the above and present evidence of same to the Commission before November 11, 2023 after which date you may hear further from the Commission,” the letter instructed.

A panelist on November 1, 2023, launched into a furious tirade about Samira Bawumia’s criticism of the NDC and John Mahama, chiding her and saying some unsavory things about her ethnicity.
