OSP disagrees with the Court’s orders to return Cecilia Dapaah’s assets, explains

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has said that much as it respects the High Court’s decision ordering it to return Cecilia Dapaah’s assets to her within seven days, it disagrees with the decision.

The OSP explained that the Court’s refusal to grant its application, because it filed the process late, is erroneous because it did that within the legal time limit. Also, it explained that it searched and took custody and froze Mrs Cecilia Dapaah’s accounts based on the fact that the assets were tainted and that it did not engage in all that based on public sentiment but through court processes based on investigations.

“While the OSP respects the Court’s decision, it disagrees with the decision of the Court. First, the OSP believes the Court’s computation of the time limitation is, with respect, erroneous. The OSP searched three(3) private residences associated with Ms. Dapaah over the course of two(2) weeks. The searches and discovery were ongoing during that period. There is little doubt that the OSP filed its application within the statutory window once the search and discovery window is concerned,” the statement said.

Last month, the OSP searched the residences of Ms Cecilia Abena Dapaah and seized some huge sums of money. It also froze her accounts following news that Ms Dapaah had sued her former domestic workers for stealing in excess of a million dollars from her bedroom.
