Adaklu District Assembly was established in the year 2012 by a Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2085 of 2012 and was carved out of Adaklu-Anyibge District now Agotime-Ziofe District
It has Adaklu-Waya as it’s Administrative capital which is geographically positioned at the center of the district.
The Adaklu District was inaugurated on 28th June 2012 as a course of promoting decentralization and bringing development to the doorstep of the people.
The district covers a total land Area of 810 sq.km. This large land area is an asset to people of Adaklu and the central point for establishing some new Regional facilities of the Volta Region. The evidence to this is that, the Volta Regional Airport and the newly built Regional Youth Recourse Centre are all located in Adaklu District.
The most dominant economic activity in the District is agriculture which employs about 78 percent of the labour force. The District is well known in the Region for the production of cereals and legumes such as maize, cowpea, groundnut, rice and tubers including cassava, sweet potatoes and vegetables (i.e. tomatoes, garden eggs, pepper, okro, etc).Livestock rearing plays an important role in the lives of the people as the District is endowed with large livestock populations of cattle, sheep, goats, poultry among others.
The people of Adaklu celebrate the Glidzi festival every January to remember the death of their ancestors during their escape from Nortsie, their ancestral home.
On behalf of the people of Adaklu, I will like to express my sincere appreciation to the president of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo for granting us the opportunity to host this year’s 66th Independence Anniversary celebration at the Adaklu District of the Volta Region.
In addition, I will like to advice all media houses to be professional in their reportage. Adaklu in the Volta Region is the venue where the 66th independence’s Day will be held and not Ho. For the sake of appropriate direction and of accurate record keeping, due diligence must be installed by the media stations.
Because it’s has come to my notice that, some media houses reported that the 66th Independence Day is taking place in the regional capital. I see such reportage as inappropriate and hence misleading and therefore an attempt to sideline the fortunes and aspirations of Adaklu District.
My profound gratitude goes to the Volta Regional Minister Hon. Dr. Archibald Letsa and the Former District Chief Executive Hon. Phanuel Kadey Donkor for their tireless contributions in making Adaklu District one of the fastest growing Assemblies in the region.
Welcome to Adaklu, enjoy your stay….
