Following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was the party’s presidential candidate, delivered a powerful message to the NPP’s diasporan branch in Accra.

Addressing party members at his official residence, he emphasized the need for unity and a comprehensive rebuilding process to move the party forward.

Acknowledging the challenges the party faced during the election, Bawumia shared his concerns about the absence of key members, many of whom stayed home due to unresolved issues.

“Our core members stayed home because they had issues, so we have to look at unity,” Bawumia stated, underlining that unity must be the central focus as the party works to heal and regroup. “Unity is key for us, and that is very important.”

Bawumia called for a thorough reflection on the party’s current state, suggesting that a complete overhaul might be necessary.

“Whatever we need to change, we have to change. We have to regroup, staying united,” he urged, highlighting the need for every member to contribute to the rebuilding process.

A significant part of Bawumia’s message was his plea for an end to the blame game that has been dividing the party. “We also have to stop the blame game. The blame game doesn’t bring unity,” he said, stressing the importance of collective responsibility and shared goals rather than finger-pointing.

Looking ahead to the future, Bawumia expressed confidence in the NPP’s ability to recover and ultimately secure victory in the next election.

“I believe that we are going to beat the NDC in 2028,” he declared. “Everything that needs to be changed as part of our rebuilding has to be done.”

His optimism was unwavering as he encouraged party members to stay motivated and supportive. “Don’t be downhearted, we have work to do, we need your support as we go forward in the next few years.”
