Justin Kodua Mocks NDC’s 35% Ashanti Region Target

The General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has downplayed the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s target of securing 35% of the votes in the Ashanti Region in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Speaking at the launch of the NPP’s Ashanti regional working committee and women’s Conference last Sunday, Mr. Kodua described the NDC’s goal as “wishful thinking,” citing the strong leadership of the Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka ‘Wontumi’ as a key factor.

“With able Chairman Wontumi in charge of Ashanti Region, the NDC’s target is a wish but not a reality. In life, it is good to have a wish, but how to achieve it is what matters most, knowing very well that it is not realistic.

“We have worked across the country; our works are visible. All we have to do is to show proof of our work to Ghanaians through our campaign activities. When we do that, we will be able to convince Ghanaians to vote for us to break the 8 on 7th December,” Mr. Kodua further charged the Women’s Wing of the party.

Stern message

He also reinforced his stern message to party appointees in the Bono Region as he revealed a troubling disconnect between them and their constituents.

He warned that he would “name and shame” those who fail to connect with their grassroots.

“I will not accept it as a general secretary whereby you are an appointee of this government, and you don’t visit your region, you don’t visit your constituency, and you don’t attend programmes. They shouldn’t force me to mention names. If that trend continues, I will name and shame them”, he stated.

Donation

Kodua also announced a donation of GHC100,000.00 to support the women’s wing’s campaign activities, underscoring the crucial role women play in the NPP’s electoral strategy.

The campaign launch, held in the Ashanti Region, was attended by key party figures, including former Majority Leader and MP for Suame, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Chief of Staff Frema Akosua Opare, and national women’s organiser Kate Gyamfuah.

The event marked a significant moment in the NPP’s preparations for the 2024 general elections, with the party expressing confidence in its ability to maintain its dominance in the Ashanti Region and beyond.
